CALGARY, AB – Adam Halat scored a goal and added two assists as Edge took home the 2023 Rocky Mountain Classic Championship with a 6-3 victory over the Calgary Flames at Winsport on Sunday.

Completing the scoring for for the Edge was Mirco DufourJack BissoonCharlie LeonardJoaquin GerasJordin St.Louis each adding a goal. Nathan Cole. Goaltender Leif Oaten turned aside 12 shots for the Edge in the win.

Edge went 6-0 at this years tournament.

Early in the first period, the Flames established a lead with goals from Nadarii Moliakov at 14:44 and Boris Sigachev at 8:35. Moliakov's goal, assisted by Soren Goulder, and Sigachev's unassisted effort gave the Flames a comfortable 2-0 advantage heading into the second period.

Edge began to mount a comeback in the second period with Jack Bissoon scoring at 13:44, assisted by Brock England and Mirco Dufour. However, Sigachev extended the Flames' lead to 3-1 with his second goal of the night, assisted by Jun Perejma and Wyatt Rowland.

The third period witnessed a complete shift in momentum. Mirco Dufour's unassisted goal at 18:47 initiated Edge's scoring run. Charlie Leonard then equalized with a goal at 11:58, assisted by Adam Halat and Nathan Cole. Edge continued their offensive onslaught with three consecutive power-play goals from Joaquin Geras at 7:44, Jordin St.Louis at 4:07, and Adam Halat at 1:41, bringing the final score to 6-3.

Scoring for the Calgary Flames was Boris Sigachev with two goals and Nadarii Moliakov with a single tally. Goaltender Tyce Falvi made 39 saves in the loss for the Calgary Flames.

1.   Defense #3, Ty Hamilton, Calgary Flames 
The sophomore defenseman for the Flames continues to shine in this tournament. His stellar performance in a crucial game included two crucial goals, marking his 4th and 5th of the tournament. His overtime goal secured a significant 4-3 victory against a formidable St. Alberta team.

2.   Forward #11, Adam Halat, Edge
In an outstanding 9-1 victory over OHA Penticton, Halat delivered another exceptional performance with a goal and four assists, totaling 14 points in the tournament. The Edge leads the tournament in scoring with 34 goals, and Halat's form suggests that number could rise.

3.   Forward  #41, Jacob Gordon, Anaheim Jr. Ducks
Gordon's consistent improvement is evident in consecutive 3-point displays, aiding the Ducks to a flawless 4-0 record. His current tally of 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists) places him among the top scorers in the tournament.

4.   Forward #10, Kayeden Stroeder, Humboldt Broncos
Stroeder's hat-trick in a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Northstars once again  showcased his scoring prowess, bringing his total to 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists). Notably, he's accrued 18 penalty minutes alongside his impressive scoring bringing a physical element to his game.

5.   Goalie tandem  #1,Tyce Falvi and #31, Nixon Mah, Calgary Flames
The Flames' goaltending duo stands out, and finish day 3 as the only team with 2 goaltenders in the top 10 for save percentage. Falvi holds a .940 SAV% with 47 saves on 50 shots, while Mah boasts a .935 SAV% with 43 saves on 46 shots.

1.     Forward #13, Nathan Cole, Edge:
Nathan's consistency shone throughout the tournament. He started strong with a 4-point debut, followed by a 3-point performance in his second game. Day two wasn't any different, as he secured another 3 points in an 8-1 victory against the Red Deer Rebels. Nathan finishes day 2 as the tournament leading scorer with an impressive 10 points in just 3 games.

2.     Forward #8 Boris Sigachev, Calgary Flames:
Boris stands out not only for his offensive prowess but also for his defensive contributions. His 6 points in 3 games leads all Flames, but his overall game helps prevent high danger scoring chances and is a major part of the Flames Identity.

3.     Forward #10, Kayden Stroeder, Humboldt Broncos:
The top scorer in the Broncos' regular season showcased a strong second day. Despite a tight 5-4 loss to OHA Colorado, he managed 2 goals and 1 assist, following it up with another 2 goals and 1 assist in a solid bounce back win against the Okanagan Rockets. Kayden's 3 goals and 4 assists in 3 games place him tied for 5th in tournament points.

4.     Forward #10 Devin Pelletier, Sherwood Park Flyers:
Continuing his impressive form, Pelletier ended the evening game with a standout performance, contributing 4 points in a commanding 9-1 win against the Notre Dame Hounds. As the regular season point leader for Sherwood Park, he now boasts an impressive tally of 3 goals and 5 assists in 3 games, positioning him tied for 4th in tournament scoring.

5.     Defense #19, Liam Reed, OHA Edmonton:
Offence from the blueline has been on full display so far and OHA Edmonton's leading point producer from the backend, Liam, exhibited impressive offensive skills in their second game, securing 4 goals and 2 assists in a commanding 12-0 victory over the Valley West Giants.

6.     Goaltenders #0 Kaeden Tate and #33 Evan Enck, Anaheim Jr. Ducks:
The goaltending duo for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks have been exceptional. Kaeden Tate has allowed only 1 goal in 120 minutes of play, while Evan Enck allowed just 1 goal in his single start. The team, supported by these goalies, has conceded a tournament-low 2 goals against, showcasing their reliable netminding.

  1. F #9 Cohen Pentney, Calgary Flames
    Cohen kicked off the tournament with a bang yesterday, securing a hat trick, all at even strength. His stellar performance played a key role in the Flames' impressive 10-2 victory over the Humboldt Broncos. With a remarkable blend of skill and grit, Pentney is poised to continue making waves this week!
     
  2. 2.F #11 Jensen Marsh, Airdrie Extreme
    Facing two games in one day didn't faze Jensen! The seasoned forward for the Extreme currently leads the tournament with 8 points. Jensen made a
    strong debut, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists in a commanding 7-2 win over the Calgary Royals. As if that wasn't enough, he added another goal and 3 assists in a close 5-4 battle against the St. Albert Sabres.
     
  3. D #10 Joaquin Geras, Edge
    Joaquin has delivered an impressive start to the Rocky Mountain tournament. He began the day with a goal and 2 assists in a dominant 12-1 victory over the Calgary Bisons. Despite a short turnaround, Geras continued his stellar performance, adding another goal and assist in an 8-1 triumph over the Red Deer Rebels.
     
  4. D #3 Ty Hamilton, Calgary Flames
    In a day filled with hat tricks, Hamilton capitalized on the opportunity! The skilled defender showcased his playmaking abilities, scoring the first goal of the game and adding 2 more in the third period of a 10-2 victory over the Humboldt Broncos. Expect Ty to build on this strong opening day performance.
     
  5. G #35 Cole Chorostkowski, OHA Edmonton
    Cole is off to a scorching start, making 24 saves en route to a shutout 8-0 victory over the Fort Sask Rangers. Keep an eye on OHA as they aim to continue their winning streak from yesterday!
     
  6. F #8 Grady Schaefer, Anaheim Jr. Ducks
    The Jr. Ducks' top scorer, Grady Schaefer, left a lasting impression in his debut game yesterday. With a stellar hat trick and four points, he played a pivotal role in the team's commanding 7-0 victory over the Golden Arrow GP Storm. The Ducks showcased their readiness to compete on day one, presenting an excellent opportunity for scouts to observe this team up close!

CALGARY, AB -- Owen Chapman scored with 12:27 left in overtime to give 2021 champions NAX the Bronze Medal with a 3-2 win over Rink Winnipeg at the 2022 Rocky Mountain Classic on Sunday.

It was Chapman's second marker of the game and fifth of the tournament. Jordan Duguay added the other NAX goal and First Team All-Star selection Daxon Rudolph chipped in with two assists in the victory. NAX goaltender Taylor Raynard turned aside 25 shots.

Koy Funk scored his sixth of the tournament and contributed an assist for Rink WinnipegKyler Zulyniak also scored and Peyton Shore made 39 saves in the loss.

CALGARY, AB -- Blueliner Landon Dupont scored two goals and Cole Prelusky made 34 saves as the Edge School prevailed 6-4 over the Airdrie Xtreme to win the 2022 Rocky Mountain Classic championship on Sunday.

Edge kept its perfect record intact with the win. The Xtreme was also undefeated heading into the Championship.

Forward Cruz Pavao from Edge added a goal and a pair of helpers. Zach OlsenMarcus Vo, and Mirco Dufour also scored and defenceman Nate Yellowaga added a pair of assists to help the Edge to its first Rocky Mountain Classic tournament win.

Xtreme forward Riley Boychuk continued his torrid pace with two goals and an assist. Caelen Joudrey and Matthew Hilderman rounded out the scoring for Airdrie. Steven Wawryk turned aside 26 shots in the defeat.

Edge forward Cruz Pavao has been named the 2022 Rocky Mountain Classic MVP.

Pavao helped the Edge School to the Rocky Mountain Classic Championship putting up seven goals and seven assists in six games including a goal and a pair of helpers in the Edge's 6-4 win over the Airdrie Xtreme in the Championship game.

CALGARY, AB -- Riley Boychuk scored four times and Aaron Sawatzky tallied in overtime to cap off an improbable third-period comeback to send the Airdrie Xtreme to the Championship Game with a 6-5 victory over NAX on Saturday.

The Xtreme erased a 5-1 deficit in the final frame to remain undefeated and stop NAX's bid for a second straight title.

Caelen Joudrey rounded out the scoring for the Xtreme while Aiden Jacobson scored two markers for NAX. Daxon RudolphJordan Duguay, and Tucker Tullikopf added singles for NAX, who suffered their first defeat of the tournament.

The other Semi-Final saw Edge take out Rink Winnipeg by a score of 7-2.  

Zach Olsen fueled the attack for Edge with a hat-trick while Mirco DufourDylan DeetsReed Reschny, and First Team All-Star selection Cruz Pavao finished off the scoring for Edge. Winnipeg had goals from Koy Funk and Maddox Malmquist.

The A Championship Final is set for Saturday at 11:45 AM.

B FINAL

CALGARY, AB -- Kaden Hayes scored his second goal of the game with 18 seconds left in overtime to lift the Okotoks Oilers to a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Bisons in the "B" Final at the 2022 Rocky Mountain Classic.

Oilers forward Nolan Peppler tied the game with 2:15 left in the third period to force overtime after the Bisons held the lead for most of the game.

Kesler Morrow and Kade Pierson also chipped in with singles for the Oilers and Okotoks goaltender Carter Esler made 38 saves in the win.

Bisons goalie Kellen Salter was outstanding facing an onslaught of 65 Oilers shots in the game.

Brady WillimentRhys BungayBrady Murphy, and Seth Garofalo also scored for the Bisons in the defeat.


Okotos Oilers 5, Calgary Bisons 4 (OT) - Game Summary


C FINAL

CALGARY, AB -- Bennett Roth scored with 7:08 remaining in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and give the Red Deer Rebels the "C" Final with a 4-3 victory over the Okanagan Rockets.

Rebels forward Brock England added a pair of goals and Chase Heidt also contributed with a single marker. Red Deer goalie Carson Tourand turned aside 31 shots in the win.

Phinneas BermelCarson Callon, and Gavin Wood tallied for the Rockets while goaltender Finn Mckiernan stopped 45 shots.

The Semi-Finals for all 3 brackets are set and the quest for the 2022 Rocky Mountain Classic Championship comes down to RHA Winnipeg, Edge, NAX and Airdire Xtreme.

Championship Playoff Bracket


RHA Winnipeg 5, Calgary Flames 4

RHA Winnipeg edged the Calgary Flames 5-4 to earn a spot in the final four of the A-Bracket. RHA Winnipeg had goals from Maddox Malmquist, Koy Funk, Daniel Degagne, Zach Lansard and River Arnason and goaltender Peyton Shore made 33 saves in the victory. Cohen Pentney netted a pair of goals for the Flames while Owen Folstrom and Jack Coghlan each added singles.

Edge 8, OHA Penticton 2

Edge advanced to the semi-finals after a decisive 8-2 win over OHA Penticton. Edge's offence was led by Cruz Pavao and Ryan Boyce with a pair of goals each. Edge goaltender Cole Prelusky turned aside 20 OHA Penticton shots.

NAX 4, Rink Kelowna 3

Ben Harvey knotted a hat trick and Parker Snell made 27 saves as NAX prevailed over Rink Kelowna 4-3 on Friday. Rink Kelowna was led by Joe Iginla who scored a pair of goals including a third period marker to get Kelowna within one but they couldn't find the equalizer.

Airdrie Xtreme 3, St. Albert Sabres 1

The Airdrie Xtreme scored three second period goals and beat the St. Albert Sabres 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals. Isaac DaviesAden Bouchard and Braeden Bohach-Murray all scored for the Xtreme while Jesse McKinnon tallied his 5th goal of the tournament for the Sabres.
